Overview
Cultural, Social and Political Thought (CSPT) is an interdisciplinary doctoral concentration at the University of Victoria taken in addition to a conventional dissertation project in a home department. Students deepen their grasp of classical and contemporary theoretical frameworks and engage current debates facing a globalised, diverse and digitally mediated world, building the theoretical, analytical and critical foundation that underpins their empirical research. The concentration adds coursework drawn from across the university on questions of culture, society and politics. It is open to doctoral students in anthropology, English, environmental studies, history, political science or sociology, spans the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, and is expected to run about four years of full-time on-campus study.
