Overview
UVic's MA in Philosophy combines coursework with a major research project developed closely with a supervisor. Students study advanced philosophy topics, take a seminar on research methods in the field, and complete a professional development practicum intended to strengthen career skills. Offered by the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities, the degree is expected to take about one year of full-time on-campus study, with co-op available as an option. Graduates leave with strong research and critical-thinking skills, mastery of the background literature in a field of philosophical study, argument-analysis and presentation ability, and some teaching experience, and the program serves as a route to doctoral study or to other fields such as law.
