Overview
If you provide support to people who are experiencing homelessness or are at-risk of homelessness, the new Fundamentals for the Homelessness Serving Sector micro-credential program is for you. You will enhance your knowledge and gain skills and competencies to support your paid or volunteer roles in the sector.
This program is offered free of charge for Vancouver Island residents who work or volunteer in the homelessness-serving sector until March 2026.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This micro-certificate has no formal admission or entrance requirements; the programme page states no application is necessary and learners simply register for the course directly. It is intended for anyone who works or volunteers in the homelessness-serving sector, or is seeking work in the sector, and tuition is offered free of charge to Vancouver Island residents who work or volunteer in that sector. No prerequisite course, minimum grade, or English-language test score is published for this program. The course sits within the health, wellness and safety stream of UVic's Division of Continuing Studies, and is priced free of charge specifically to widen access for the Vancouver Island homelessness-serving workforce it targets.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, which opens for 2027-entry applications on 1 October 2026: most degree programmes see September 2027 entry close 31 January 2027, January 2027 entry close 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry close 31 March 2027, though Teacher Education post-degree programmes close 2 January 2027, Indigenous Education post-degree admits on an ongoing basis, and Engineering's Summer entry (high-school graduates only) closes 31 December 2026. International applicants use the same portal and face identical dates, since UVic publishes no separate international deadline. UVic treats these as fixed annual dates rather than rolling admission, though it warns any programme can close early without notice. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
