Overview
Mathematics/Teaching is an undergraduate program in the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics for students planning to become secondary school math teachers. Alongside a broad range of mathematics coursework, or an optional focus within mathematics, students can add a second teachable subject such as biology, business, chemistry, computer science, English, French, music or physics. The co-op program builds in eight months of paid teaching-related work experience before graduates apply to a Bachelor of Education program. Ontario applicants are admitted with six Grade 12 U/M courses, including Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, a Grade 12 U English credit and one other 4U course, with Grade 11 Introduction to Computer Science recommended. All applicants must complete the university's Admission Information Form. The program is intended as preparation for teacher-education programs rather than a stand-alone teaching credential.
