Overview

The Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo is a research-based graduate degree with four fields of study: environmental and water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering, structures, mechanics and construction engineering, and transportation engineering. Students complete an original research thesis under a faculty supervisor within a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment spanning several departments and schools at Waterloo. The program combines thesis research with a smaller graduate coursework component in the student's chosen field. Delivery is on the Waterloo campus, and the degree is designed to be completed in 24 months of full-time study, with admission available in the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. Graduates are prepared for doctoral study or for research and engineering careers in the public or private sector, drawing on Waterloo's civil engineering research groups and laboratories.

Minimum GPA: 75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: An honours bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a 75% overall standing is required; applicants below this threshold may be considered on a probationary basis with at least 78% standing in their final year of study, or at least three years of relevant work experience combined with a 70% overall average in their bachelor's degree. Applicants whose prior education was not in English must meet Waterloo's graduate English proficiency requirement, typically demonstrated with TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall (4.5 writing, 4 speaking, 4 reading, 4 listening) or IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (6.0 in writing and speaking).
