Overview
The Master of Science (MSc) in Earth Sciences (Water) is a collaborative, research-based graduate program offered by the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the Faculty of Science. Students pursue quantitative, scientifically rigorous research with a specific focus on water sciences, alongside related areas such as sustainable mining, earth processes, and geohazards, working within active research groups led by faculty recognized in the field — a focus that distinguishes it from the department's general Earth Sciences MSc option. The collaborative water designation connects students with the University of Waterloo's broader interdisciplinary water research community across departments. The program is delivered on campus and completed full-time over 24 months, with admission offered in the fall, winter, and spring terms. Graduates pursue careers in water resource management, environmental consulting, government, and academia, or continue on to doctoral research.
