The PhD in Environmental Science is administered through the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER) at the University of Windsor, the only graduate program in North America focused explicitly on stressors affecting large aquatic systems and their watersheds, such as the Great Lakes. The program is intended for students who wish to pursue independent, specialized research within a multidisciplinary environmental science framework. Students complete graduate coursework and seminars, collaborate with GLIER researchers and other scientists, and undertake an original research project that culminates in a dissertation, defended before a supervisory committee. Along the way, students are expected to present their work at conferences and submit findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants submit a statement of research interest and three letters of reference, and GRE scores are recommended for applicants who completed a prior degree outside North America. The program leads to a Doctor of Philosophy and prepares graduates for research careers in environmental science, aquatic ecosystem management, and related fields in academia, government, and industry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Prospective GLIER PhD students must submit a 500-word statement of research interest and three letters of reference. GRE scores are strongly recommended for applicants who completed their previous degree outside North America. International applicants must also meet the University of Windsor's English-language proficiency requirements.
