Environmental Science (PhD)

The Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science attracts students from various disciplines interested in research on the causes of, or solutions to, pressing environmental problems, drawing on perspectives from different disciplines. The program provides a broad knowledge of current environmental research issues and specific training in research methodologies suited to questions at the interface between traditional science disciplines. It prepares students for careers in teaching and research at universities and colleges, as well as in government laboratories or private organizations conducting fundamental environmental research. Admission normally requires a Master's degree with a minimum B+ average; applicants with an average below A- are asked to contact the graduate unit before applying. A direct-entry option from a bachelor's degree is available to applicants with a minimum A-minus average, and no standardized admissions tests are required. The program is administered by the University of Toronto's School of Graduate Studies and leads to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
