Overview

The Civil/Structural Technician Certificate provides a computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) software and techniques used in developing highways, high rises, and commercial buildings with the Civil/Structural Technician certificate. Opportunity to advance into a CAD and BIM Technician diploma program.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Civil/Structural Technician Certificate requires Grade 12 graduation or equivalent and English Language Proficiency at a Grade 12 level; applicants who do not meet the English requirement may still be admitted at the department's discretion, and no standardized test score is published on the programme page. Mathematics is met by Workplace Math 11 or equivalent, or by the VCC Math Assessment with at least 80% on Basic Arithmetic and 60% on Basic Algebra. No minimum grade point average is stated. High-school graduates of Drafting 11 and 12 with departmental approval, and graduates of VCC's CAD Technician Short Certificate, may apply for direct entry into term 2. The programme is restricted to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with seats offered in order of application completion date.

Start Date: September intake only. VCC's academic year runs in three terms: Winter (January to April), Spring/Summer (May to August) and Fall (September to December).
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply through EducationPlannerBC. VCC publishes this programme's windows term by term on its When to Apply page: Fall 2027 entry (September start) — open 1 October 2026, close 1 June 2027. Seats go to eligible applicants in the order their applications are completed, so the programme can close before the listed end date once it fills. VCC's page for this programme states it is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and points international students to VCC International, which lists separately the programmes and intakes open to them; there the application periods open on 1 February, 1 June and 1 October of the previous year for the Winter, Spring/Summer and Fall terms, with no fixed closing date — a programme accepts applications until roughly three to four months before classes begin, or until its seats are gone.
