Overview
The Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree provides students with the knowledge and experience to pursue careers in education, fitness/wellness management, movement science, outdoor leadership, rehabilitation sciences, coaching, athlete development, and sports administration. You will explore the nature of human movement and learn essential skills to improve quality of life through activity and exercise. The program provides you with a broad foundation in many aspects of kinesiology and exposes students to diverse learning environments and applied experiences including lectures, labs, activity classes, online learning, and applied research and scholarship.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: First-year entry: VIU's general admission requirements, a minimum "C+" in English 12 or equivalent, a minimum "C+" in Anatomy and Physiology 12 or equivalent, and Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-Calculus 11 (or an accepted equivalent) completed.
Second-year entry: at least 26 university credits, carrying a minimum average GPA of 3.00 ("B"), which must include the Degree English Requirement (ENGL 115 plus either ENGL 125 or ENGL 135, minimum "C+" in each); KIN 201 Human Anatomy and KIN 220 Human Physiology or equivalents at minimum "B" each; two further lower-level Kinesiology courses from KIN 202, 203, 232, 253, 262, 280 and 291 at a 3.00 ("B") GPA; and 6 additional non-Kinesiology credits. A completed Self-Assessment Form is required.
Third-year entry: at least 54 university credits at a minimum GPA of 3.00 ("B"), including the Degree English Requirement at minimum "C+" per course, KIN 201 and KIN 220 or equivalents at minimum "B" each, four courses from the same Kinesiology list at a 3.00 ("B") GPA, and 30 credits (ten courses) from outside Kinesiology. A completed Self-Assessment Form is required.
Enrolment is limited, so meeting the minimums does not guarantee a seat, and taking Kinesiology courses without being admitted does not secure entry. The programme holds reserve seats for Indigenous students, applied for through the Access Initiative for Indigenous Students form. Second- and third-year applicants are advised to weigh BCAK requirements when choosing the elective courses they use to meet admission requirements.
