Overview
The Master of Science in Geology at Western University is offered through two pathways: a project-based route designed to meet industry demand for trained applied geologists, and a thesis-based route that prepares students for independent research through problem formulation, data collection, analytical method development, literature review and a final thesis. Applicants require a four-year degree in science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, geography or a related discipline. The project-based pathway requires a minimum 75 percent average over the final two years of the bachelor's degree, while the thesis-based pathway requires a minimum 70 percent average, with 78 percent needed to qualify for departmental funding. Applications require transcripts, a CV or résumé, a statement of intent, and contact details for three referees. The application deadline is January 24 for a September 1 start, with the thesis-based route also permitting a May 1 start.
