Program details
Overview
Advanced Health Care Practice (MHSc) is a one-year, three-term, course-based master's program at Western University, described as the first program of its kind in Canada. It is designed to develop leaders in the health sciences and is delivered primarily through online courses. The program includes a Capstone Experience consisting of a mentorship opportunity in the student's chosen field, allowing graduates to apply program content in a practical, supervised context. The degree targets health-care professionals seeking to build advanced skills for leadership and health-systems roles rather than direct clinical specialization. Admission draws applicants with an undergraduate background who wish to move into supervisory, administrative, or educational health-care positions. As a course-based degree, it does not require a thesis, and its combination of online delivery with a mentorship placement distinguishes it from Western's other health-sciences graduate offerings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require a bachelor's degree with at least B standing (or equivalent) over the final two years of study, advanced computer skills, two references (one academic and one professional), and completion of a supplemental questionnaire. Prior work experience in a related field may strengthen an application. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through an accepted English test.
