Overview

This Doctor of Ministry is a professional doctorate focused on the practical integration of biblical, historical, pastoral, and theological study with active ministry practice. Coursework addresses the integration of theology with ministry in a student's specific context, engagement between Christian faith and broader social and cultural contexts such as social ethics, contextual theology, and interfaith dialogue, and ecclesiastical practices including liturgy, homiletics, pastoral care, and religious leadership. The program consists of three core courses, four electives, and a thesis that combines theology, practice, and context, completed over four to six years. Students continue working, normally full-time, in a ministry role that serves as their ministry base throughout the program, attending the Wycliffe College campus at the University of Toronto for two to three weeks each spring rather than relocating. Applicants are expected to hold a Master of Divinity and at least three years of ministry experience since completing it. The program suits ordained and lay ministry professionals seeking to deepen their leadership and theological reflection.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 3.30 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Doctor of Ministry requires a Master of Divinity degree accredited by the Association of Theological Schools, or its recognized equivalent, itself built on a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, completed with at least B+ standing, a cumulative GPA of 3.3/4.0, or equivalent. Applicants must also have a minimum of three years' experience in the practice of ministry following the MDiv, and must be currently engaged in a ministry, normally full-time, that will serve as the ministry base for the period of advanced professional study; the programme welcomes qualified applicants, lay and ordained. The programme page does not state an English-test score, so Wycliffe College's institution-wide standard applies to applicants whose primary language is not English: IELTS overall band 7.0, or TOEFL with an overall score of 93 on the internet-based test (minimum 22 in speaking and writing) or 580 on the paper-based test with 5 in the Test of Written English, results valid for two years.
