Overview
The PhD in Quantitative Life Sciences is offered jointly by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science. It is an interdepartmental, interfaculty program covering systems biology, computational and mathematical biology, dynamic systems, quantitative ecology, computational genomics, bioinformatics and biostatistics, biophysics, and computational neuroscience. In their first year, students rotate through three different research groups before choosing a thesis supervisor and settling into a lab for the remainder of the degree. All first-year students take a foundations course introducing computational, mathematical, and statistical approaches used across the life sciences. The program also runs a weekly research seminar featuring guest speakers from across the quantitative life sciences. The program develops skills in literature synthesis and communicating complex ideas, preparing graduates for careers in academia or industry. Admission is in the Fall term.
