Overview
This PhD, offered by the School of Religious Studies in the Faculty of Arts, engages students in interdisciplinary research and teaching across a broad range of religious traditions, including theology, Asian religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, biblical and Hebrew Bible studies, Judaism, philosophy of religion, ecclesiastical history, sociology of Islam, and lived religion in North America. Students may pursue a Gender and Women's Studies option focused on feminist and gender studies in relation to religious traditions. Most students receive internal or external funding, with additional support available for research travel and dissemination. The School is affiliated with the Montreal Diocesan Theological College, Presbyterian College Montreal, and the United Theological College, and offers graduate students supervised teaching opportunities. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree and proof of English-language proficiency. Fall is the only intake, with applications opening September 15 and a January 15 deadline for domestic and international applicants.
