Fiji's 2005 Environmental Management Act requires the primary industry and government bodies responsible for protecting the environment to employ staff who are confident handling environmental issues, and this diploma is built to supply that workforce. Students build the know-how to diagnose environmental problems and put together management plans that industry and government bodies can act on, working through units covering field sampling, pollution control and environmental law.
Offered across the Lautoka and Nabua campuses, the two-year, 240-credit-point diploma majors in Environmental Management. A common first year in environmental science, natural resource management and academic English is followed by a second year centred on biodiversity conservation, environmental law and research methods, with electives in chemistry, biology and statistics.
