DRD, the Doctoral Programme on Drug Research and Diagnostics, has its researchers carry out studies at the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Technology, following their own faculty's degree requirements, and work within University of Turku research groups that identify and validate new drug targets, develop drug molecules against them, and build diagnostic methods to measure their effects. Related work typically covers the pharmacological characterisation of new drug molecules, their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, toxicological assessment and clinical pharmacology, alongside developing in vitro diagnostic methods and other healthcare monitoring techniques, from biomarker identification through to validating assay concepts and systems. Training spans every phase of research, from setting research goals through to pinpointing drug targets and diagnostic biomarkers, extending into the development of pharmaceutical and diagnostic products, and includes an introduction to the regulations governing medicines and diagnostics nationally and internationally. Degrees completed include Doctor of Odontology, Medical Sciences or Philosophy in Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy in Science, or Doctor of Science in Technology or Philosophy in Technology.
