Migration and Multicultural Society is a postgraduate diploma of 30 ECTS offered by the Faculty of Sociology, Anthropology and Folkloristics at the University of Iceland. It is studied by distance learning and is open to students who hold a bachelor's degree.
The 30 credits divide into three equal blocks of 10: a mandatory course, restricted electives, and free electives picked in consultation with the supervisor. The programme concentrates on the central questions of migration and multiculturalism in current debate, and examines how globalisation affects society, the economy and politics. Active participation in discussion is given weight, and the aim is to build both theoretical and practical knowledge.
Most learning happens online, with real-time participation in online meetings or in ordinary sessions expected. A few electives may only be offered on-site. Completing the diploma opens a route into a master's programme in global studies.
