Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, run by the School of Mathematics and Statistics, combines mathematics, statistics and economics into a four-year foundation for assessing and managing financial risk. It is built to prepare students for the preliminary examinations of professional actuarial bodies such as the Society of Actuaries, so graduates can compete for roles in insurance, finance and pensions.
Within the programme, students can lean toward life insurance, pensions or enterprise risk management depending on their career goals, with the central aim of producing graduates who can apply mathematical models to real financial problems. Teaching is face-to-face, giving students direct contact with faculty and industry professionals through collaborative and practical work that mirrors the demands of actuarial practice.
