Run jointly by Riga Technical University's Liepāja Academy and RISEBA, this doctorate centres on creative practice-based art research and the transformative potential of digital technology, offering advanced study of digital tools across media environments, immersive platforms and audiovisual art. Qualified candidates carry out original, independent research in digital media and audiovisual art and the creative use of new technology, relevant to culture, the economy, politics and society in Latvia and abroad, while building a professional connection to business and the creative industries.
Candidates are trained as research-oriented artists with broad knowledge of new technologies, audiovisual art and digital culture, alongside the skills needed to create artworks and innovative media products, carry out scientific research and lead creative projects. Coursework connects candidates to professional networks across partner institutions and creative-industry organisations, and builds competence in leading multidisciplinary teams and communicating research to academic and public audiences. Graduates go on to work as independent artists, experts across various fields, or as faculty and researchers at scientific institutions in Latvia and internationally.
