Overview
Baltic Linguistics is a master's specialisation that aims to educate highly qualified specialists in the Baltic languages. Graduates are at home in the past and present of Baltic language study, in interdisciplinary research methods and in methodological strategies, and they can analyse, assess and resolve theoretical and practical problems tied to ideas about language and society, education, and shifting cultural and social identities.
Students gain knowledge of three Baltic languages, Lithuanian, Latvian and Prussian, along with their sources, of how the Baltic languages developed alongside other Indo-European languages, and of how they relate to other languages in the area. They learn to judge completed and current research in the field and its significance, and they build the skills and experience needed to apply modern technology to material in the Baltic languages.
