The programme trains biology and genetics specialists with fundamental knowledge of cell biology, microbiology, genetics, and plant and animal biology, aimed at work in the biotechnology and biomedical industry, research and educational institutions, or further study. Compulsory subjects run from general biology, chemistry and physics through invertebrate and vertebrate biology, general genetics, microbiology, plant ecophysiology, evolution and phylogeny, biophysics and cell and developmental biology, supported by field practice in plant and animal biology. Students may deepen their study in biology, molecular biology or genetics through optional subjects such as entomology, human genetics, ornithology, population and ecological genetics, or aquaculture systems. The programme concludes with two term papers and a bachelor thesis, with learning outcomes also covering laboratory practice under bioethical rules, use of biological databases, and communication of results in more than one language.
