Overview
This 1.5-year master's programme trains English philologists to independently break down the English language into its different levels and units, applying linguistic and translation knowledge to texts of varying genres, registers, styles, and communicative intentions. Core modules include cross-cultural communication, contrastive text linguistics, theories and methods of translation, plurilingual approaches in language education, and two research papers, with elective options in literary translation, translation of specialised texts, interpreting theory and practice, neurolinguistic language teaching methods, and English for leadership communication.
Learning outcomes include applying the principles of literary and specialised translation using automated translation programmes and computer lexicography, evaluating and selecting language-teaching methods suited to different multilingual settings, and conducting independent research in English philology, translation, or intercultural communication presented to a target audience. Students also develop skills in initiating and leading a team of linguists, translators, editors, and language teachers, preparing graduates for translation, interpreting, editing, and language-teaching roles or further doctoral study.
