This master's programme prepares specialists in ethnic culture to organise and carry out research, analysing ethnic-cultural phenomena within the context of regional history and social processes, and to develop and implement national and international ethnic-cultural projects. Students learn to collect, organise, and analyse scientific material on Lithuanian ethnic culture and heritage and compare it with the heritage of other European nations, applying current theories and methods of ethnology and folklore.
Elective courses include ethno-cultural tourism, psychological anthropology covering cross-cultural studies of gender and the life cycle, cultural psychology, ethnic and modern popular music, ritual theories, comparative religion, and the culture of Lithuanian ethnic groups. The programme also builds skills in writing analytical articles on ethnic culture and providing scientific advice to educational, tourism, and public institutions, preparing graduates to carry out research across scientific and educational institutions as well as museums, archives, libraries, and national or regional parks.
