Program details

Overview

This one-year master's programme examines the psychology of violence and crime from the perspectives of both victims and offenders, looking at factors such as past victimisation, prior offending, psychopathology and aggression as possible predictors of future violent behaviour, and at what might increase the risk of repeat victimisation. Students gain theoretical insight into the correlates and consequences of violence and crime, along with practical skills for assessing and intervening in both offender and victim contexts, with teaching that aims to draw out the psychological nuances between these two roles rather than treat them as a simple dichotomy.
