MA/MS in English Literature and Culture

The academic study of English literature is presented here as a way of reflecting on how people relate to one another, offering insight into current social debates while building independent, research-oriented habits of critical thinking, interpretation and analysis. Students study literature and culture from the British Isles, North America and other English-speaking countries, and this is the only master's in the Netherlands to include creative-writing modules in poetry and short fiction. Study can be shaped around personal interests, spanning anything from medieval texts to the Victorian novel to fan fiction, taught in small classes with close staff contact by specialists in their respective fields. An optional internship offers a chance to build a professional network and gain direct experience in industry, and graduates frequently go on to work in writing and publishing.
