Overview
This two-year research master takes an interdisciplinary approach to questions such as why some people recover from illness faster than others, how societies can support healthier lives at every age, and how science, technology and policy shape health, functioning and wellbeing. Students join a small cohort drawn from varied scientific backgrounds, receive close personal guidance, and pursue a research topic of their own choosing, developing into researchers equipped to make an impact inside and outside academia. Two tracks are available: one on the mechanisms of lifecourse health, looking at how individual health develops, changes and recovers over a lifetime and how functioning and wellbeing can be improved, and another on strategies for population health, examining how environmental and health-system factors shape population health and how inequalities can be reduced. The programme builds on expertise developed through related research masters and MSc programmes in epidemiology, sport sciences and human movement sciences.
