Overview
This research master's has students tackle global health problems while working across disciplinary lines and alongside social stakeholders, reflecting how diseases such as the Zika virus pay no attention to national borders and how most health problems carry social, political, and economic consequences. As the world's population grows more interdependent, there is a need for a view of health that spans the globe and treats responsibility as something shared. The field itself is defined as the broad area of study, research, and practice directed at improving health and achieving equity in health outcomes, which calls for inter- and transdisciplinary approaches that cross disciplinary boundaries and bring researchers into contact with health professionals, patients, policymakers, and public and private sector stakeholders in order to build a thorough, in-depth grasp of global health problems. Researchers in the field also work to bring these varied stakeholders together toward coherent, strategic action that addresses such problems.
