The master programme in mathematics gives advanced knowledge of central problems and methods in mathematics and mathematics education. Students choose between two specialisations: pure mathematics, with emphasis on mathematical analysis and an optional internship, and mathematics education, which prepares for teaching mathematics at school. Both specialisations are linked to the university's strong mathematics teaching and research environments.
The 120-credit programme is taught full time in Kristiansand. Both options qualify graduates for admission to PhD studies in mathematical subjects, and both allow them to become upper secondary teachers after practical-pedagogical education. Students can apply for exchange during the programme.
