This full-time master's in midwifery is taught on the Bergen campus and prepares students to support women and families through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. The programme is divided into roughly equal parts of theory and practice, with four practice periods linked to hospitals in Førde, Bergen, Stord, Voss and Haugesund. Practice covers maternity, delivery and postnatal care, and parts of it take place at outpatient clinics, youth health stations and neonatal wards. Teaching uses seminars, reflection groups, skills training and simulation, with compulsory learning activities. Practice requires 90 per cent attendance, and students must submit a police certificate. The thesis is an independent piece of work that may be written in pairs, and existing midwives can take a top-up of 40 or 60 credits.
