Mathematical Sciences is a third-cycle doctoral programme at the University of Primorska's Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT), taught in Slovene and English in Koper. Study is part-time over three years, or six semesters, and totals 180 ECTS credits. Successful candidates receive the title doktor znanosti, which the faculty equates to a doctoral degree.
Applicants usually hold a second-cycle degree in Mathematics or a closely related field. Also accepted are holders of programmes credited with 300 ECTS under the Higher Education Act and graduates of pre-June 2004 undergraduate studies in mathematics, in combined mathematics and computer science, in physics, or in other natural sciences. Those with a mathematics-related master's in computer science or physics, or in another discipline, may join after passing differential exams in Analysis and Algebra, and each such case is reviewed individually by the faculty's Committee for Study and Student Affairs.
If places are limited, selection rests on second-cycle results, namely the average grade and the grade of the master's thesis.
