Program details

Overview

The degree builds knowledge of how animals live, feed, behave and stay healthy. Learning combines hands-on practice with current scientific study, so students understand both the biology of animals and the way it is applied. Study is based at Writtle. A foundation year can be taken before the degree, and the course can be studied part-time over six years. A CertHE route allows UK students to complete the first year as a qualification in its own right. Graduates are prepared for careers in animal science, animal care and related scientific work. Students cover animal nutrition, health, behaviour and welfare science, and learn how research informs animal management in practice. Practical sessions give hands-on experience with animals and the equipment used in their care.
