Building Surveying

This building surveying degree trains you to assess how buildings are designed, specified and perform over time. You develop skills in inspection and analysis, use specialist equipment to identify and address defects, and learn to advise clients on sustainable property, refurbishment and alterations. You work alone and in larger groups, travel to sites, hear from practitioners and practise project management. Professional accreditation comes from RICS, the body for chartered surveyors, and graduates can complete its professional assessment to become chartered. A placement year and a foundation year are available, with teaching based in Chelmsford. Modules combine classroom study with inspections and site visits, so you learn to apply technical knowledge in real buildings. Assessment includes practical reports and surveys. You can also study for the professional assessment after graduating.
