Program details

Overview

Students follow a criminal case in sequence, beginning with the first officers to arrive and ending with the moment evidence is presented before a judge and jury. Along the way they learn how forensic examination, policing methods and legal procedure fit together. Practical sessions happen in mock scenes and a large teaching lab designed to mirror real casework. Several lecturers have worked in policing or investigation, and visiting practitioners from regional forces, the capital's police service and the national crime agency share their experience. Local forces also set problems for students to tackle, and immersive camera technology supports some of the hands-on work. Recognition from a professional forensic body applies to the three-year route. Learners may add an industry year or begin with a foundation year. The degree is taught in Cambridge and points towards careers in investigation and forensic work.
