Overview
This Higher Technical Qualification prepares learners to work as a support worker across healthcare settings. Developed with NHS and independent sector employers, the course explains core concepts, guiding values and standards of healthcare practice. Students build capability to work well in different environments, with a focus on integrated and compassionate care.
Around a third of the learning takes place in practice-based environments, where students apply theory with ongoing support from registered professionals. Mandatory placements are recorded in a learning portfolio. The portfolio journals experience, evidences progress and demonstrates competence to future employers.
Graduates are prepared for roles as healthcare professional support workers and can progress into further study. The course also addresses the wider social and health context, including health promotion and person-centred approaches across the lifespan.
