PhD in Social Work

The Doctor of Social Welfare is intended for social workers who want to move into leadership while continuing their jobs. Adelphi structures it so that a student can complete the degree in about three years. Graduates prepare for senior posts as clinicians, agency executives and educators, equipped to shape and carry out fair policy and practice from the national level to the local neighborhood. The final stage is a capstone lasting a full year, in which students select a topic matching their goals and deliver either a scholarly paper or a funding proposal. Faculty supervise applied projects along the way, a student handbook guides progress, and virtual information evenings are held for those considering applying.
