BA/BS in Biology, General

Biology majors work with faculty researchers and attend small classes where teachers pay close attention to progress. Many courses include time in the laboratory or field, so students practice science in realistic settings before graduating. Careers range from research labs and hospitals to biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare and environmental organizations. The degree also serves students aiming for medical, veterinary or dental school, as well as other advanced programs. Adelphi faculty have drawn public attention, for example when a professor guided television cast members through birdwatching. Students pick between a BA and a BS plan of study. A biology minor suits those who major in neighboring areas, for instance anthropology or environmental studies, and joint degree options are described. Funded projects, including a National Science Foundation network for improving STEM teaching, show the department's emphasis on science education.
