BA/BS in Journalism

Prospective journalism majors apply to the program after completing preparatory coursework, and the same process covers the sports production option. Required steps include a media foundations course, a fundamentals class and a news writing course, each completed with a C or better, plus thirty hours of degree-applicable credit. Applicants submit an essay of about three hundred words, free of errors, explaining how journalism fits their academic and professional plans. Students who transfer in need to finish a semester at Auburn before they can apply. The program belongs to the liberal arts college's communication and journalism department. The first-year plan pairs English composition and history with public speaking, and later terms build on that base with media and reporting courses chosen with an advisor's help.
