Program details

Overview

Architecture instruction at Auburn goes back to 1907, which makes it one of the longest-running programs in the country and the earliest in the Southern states. This version of the major follows a Foundation Unit path, where design studios begin right away in the first semester. The professional program is selective. Most newcomers apply to the university as pre-architecture majors and then compete for a place in the professional sequence through one of two placement routes: the Foundation Unit or the Summer Design Program, which moves the studios into the summer after freshman year. The plan of study mixes design studios with visual communication, digital media, physics and general education courses. It totals 159 hours, and the bulletin notes that a professional fee is charged. The goal is the accredited Bachelor of Architecture.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the professional program is limited; pre-architecture students compete for seats through the Foundation Unit or Summer Design placement pathway.
