BA/BS in Biomedical/Medical Engineering

Boston University's College of Engineering runs this undergraduate degree, which treats medicine and biology as problems to be approached with engineering tools. Examples include designing systems that measure physiological signals, building diagnostic devices, and studying how the human body behaves when healthy or unwell. The curriculum blends engineering, math and foundational science with a strong cross-disciplinary thread. Coursework spans biology and physiology at scales from single cells and molecules to whole living systems, and it pairs these with quantitative analysis and design. Students are trained to address problems that touch the economy, the environment, ethics, law and society. Nearly all premed prerequisites can be met within the major, which makes it a fit both for future physicians and for those heading toward biotechnology or engineering careers.
