BA/BS in Anthropology

Anthropology studies people: where they come from, their biological variation, languages, cultural patterns, social institutions and adaptation to their environments. Offerings include an undergraduate major, a minor and a graduate degree with two options. The major adds to a liberal education and prepares students for further study, teaching or other careers. The minor complements many majors by introducing multiculturalism, human diversity and anthropological methods, which also fit fields such as business, engineering, health and education. An Honors Program is available. Students who plan to teach social studies in grades six through twelve can combine the major with a subject matter program toward teaching credential entry. The degree opens with a 12-unit foundations section covering biological anthropology, cultural anthropology and archaeology, and it includes elective upper division courses and 43 units of general education.
