BA/BS in Biology, General

The Biology major introduces how living organisms work and gives students room to carry out their own research. It prepares graduates for healthcare, research and environmental careers or for graduate school. The curriculum moves from genes, proteins and cells to ecology and evolution. Students may add a focus in cardiovascular perfusion, environmental science and management, or human biology, and they finish with a senior capstone that involves research or hands-on experience. Two of the focus areas are dual-degree routes. One includes clinical training at a partner hospital, and the other is a joint effort with Duquesne University that leads to both a bachelor's and a master's in environmental science. The major is based on the Oakland campus. Faculty mentor students who want to prepare for health professions or graduate study.
