Program details

Overview

The history program teaches students to explain what happened, why and how. Coursework examines motives, values and competing narratives, and it emphasizes evidence-based argument, independent research and one-on-one mentoring. The flexible major, which totals 36 credits, is designed for double majors and pre-professional students, including those completing physical therapy or medical school requirements. Students present at conferences, take part in National History Day and gain experience through internships. Graduates enter business, law, library science, teaching and archives work. Study abroad complements the major, and a history minor is available to students in other fields. Prospective students can speak with an admission counselor to learn how the program fits their goals and what the next steps are. Details on courses, faculty and requirements are listed on the program page.
