AA/AS in Anthropology

Anthropology at Contra Costa College is part of the Social Sciences area and takes a student-centered approach to the question of the nature of humanity. Students examine where people came from, how they live, speak and act, using classroom study and chances to do fieldwork. Topics range from digs and fossils to customs, values and belief systems around the world. This broad view helps students understand both ancient societies and current issues such as inequality, violence and environmental change. The program introduces the main subfields of the discipline and prepares students for transfer or for future work in teaching, research, social work, museum roles and similar areas. The department chair also oversees history and geography, which sit alongside anthropology. Prospective students can review the department page for faculty contacts, program maps and information about the support services available on campus.
