AA/AS in Sociology

Sociology at Contra Costa College takes a student-centered approach to understanding how societies function, from everyday interactions in small groups to large global systems. Students learn core sociological theories and the research methods used to test them. Classes consider how how race, social class, and gender, together with culture and institutions, influence lived experience. Analysis shifts across three scales, from micro to meso to macro, giving students a broad picture of the social world. The department says the program fits students planning to transfer or enter fields including education, social work, and public policy, along with law, criminal justice, and community organizing. Associate degree options include an Associate in Arts, an Associate in Arts for Transfer, and a related Liberal Arts degree in social and behavioral sciences. The page lists the department chair and a set of student resources including counseling, career services, and transfer support.
