Overview

Mathematical Sciences at DePaul spans pure and applied topics and serves two groups: students seeking a mathematics degree itself, and students from other fields who need a strong quantitative base. This bachelor's degree totals one hundred ninety-two quarter hours. Each major picks a concentration, with options that include actuarial work, finance, theory, data-oriented statistics and operations research. A student may instead work with an advisor to assemble a personalized sequence of courses. Those who want a deeper challenge can pursue a thesis, working with a faculty mentor on a longer independent project and ideally starting in junior year. Graduates are expected to reason logically, build models of complicated situations and use how math theory applies to problems across mathematics and the sciences.
