Overview

The African and African American Studies major leads to a Bachelor of Arts and asks each student to select a concentration focused either on Africa or on the Americas. Two introductory courses, one on African American Studies and one on African Studies, anchor the curriculum. Advanced courses must come from the chosen focus and address specified areas of knowledge, including arts and performance, civilizations and social sciences. A senior seminar completes the major. The minor shares the introductory courses and requires advanced work that covers both Africa and the Americas. Downloadable worksheets help students plan their degree.
