BA/BS in International Relations and National Security Studies

Offered through the Department of Politics and International Relations, this major lets students begin departmental courses early and formally declare once they have finished part of the university core. The degree totals 120 credits, with thirty-six devoted to the major. Students must earn at least a C in every course that counts toward the major. Lower-division prerequisites can be satisfied with courses transferred from community colleges, state colleges and other state universities under statewide agreements. Study starts with an introductory course and a comparative politics course, with alternatives allowed from a list of related subjects. Students then select upper-level courses from several groups, including topics in international law and international organizations. The structure lets students explore several parts of the field before settling on the specialized upper-level courses that best match their goals and interests.
