AA/AS in Computer Science

Computer Science applies computing principles to the design and creation of software. The curriculum is organized as a two-year course of study. It focuses on the theory behind computing, on algorithms, and on programming techniques used in software development, and the program map includes general education courses. Graduates should be able to write programs with control flow, functions, and data structures, build structures suited to searching and sorting, and judge programs for correctness and efficiency while fixing logic errors. The published program map lays out one possible route through the required courses and is offered for reference only. Students are asked to meet with a counselor to build a personal education plan. Each course entry in the catalog lists its description, any prerequisites or advisories, and the general education or transfer areas it satisfies. Transfer plans deserve a counselor conversation too, because every university sets its own course requirements.
