Overview

The Associate in Arts in Dance combines studio technique, performance experience and academic study. Students train in dance technique, take part in staged concerts and production work, and study the theory behind composition. Courses include a range of movement styles as well as performance classes in which students rehearse, memorize choreography and appear in a concert on stage. Graduates can explain the forms and elements of several dance and choreography styles and can perform in a public setting. The page lists careers such as choreographer, dance teacher, dance therapist, fitness instructor and performer. General education courses complete the degree. The credential is offered by Fresno City College in California. The published program map shows a single suggested pathway through the requirements and is intended for reference only. Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to build a personal education plan and to discuss transfer options, since every university sets its own course requirements.
